Meningitis is caused as a result of bacterial or viral infection. This is a serious problem that causes inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord. It is easy to diagnose meningitis.

It is a common disease that affects everyone.

It can be easily prevented by vaccination.
Vaccination cannot help prevent this disease. So, if you think that you cannot suffer from this problem just because you have been vaccinated, you are highly mistaken. However, vaccination may offer some protection against bacterial meningitis.

It is only caused due to kissing.
There is a common misconception that this disease is only caused due to kissing. However, this is wrong. Meningitis is not just caused as a result of kissing. Instead, it can be caused due to any type of physical contact such as holding hands, touching, sharing drinks or food etc. Even talking could transmit this disease from one person to the other.

It resolves on its own.
Many people do not feel the need to treat meningitis. This is because they feel that the problem will get resolved on its own. However, this is not true. You need to treat this problem with an appropriate cure in order to get rid of it. If the problem is left untreated, it could lead to brain damage and even death. While both viral as well as bacterial meningitis need appropriate treatment, it is bacterial meningitis treatment that calls for an immediate solution.

It is incurable.
This is completely false. If the treatment is started on time, you can easily fight the problem. Those suffering from bacterial meningitis can treat the problem using antibiotics. However, antibiotics cannot be used for viral meningitis. But the problem can be treated by administering plenty of fluids and rest as well.
